I remain skeptical
I have always felt that at the college level an instructor ought to be able to cancel a class if necessary. Of course, calling in sick accomplishes that, but then there's the whole moral dilemma. But since a sub is only going to be monitoring the class in this situation, what difference does it make what department he's in? Anyway, you have my sympathy.
